FIRST PHILIPPINE HOLDINGS IS A CORPORATION THAT IS CONSTANTLY IN ACTION. WE’RE ALWAYS TRYING TO FIND WAYS TO DELIVER FOR OUR STAKEHOLDERS AND THE FILIPINO PEOPLE.
First Philec Solar Corporation (FPSC) inaugurated today its wafer-slicing plant at the First Philippine Industrial Park. On hand during the inauguration ceremonies were Department of Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes and Mr. Oscar M. Lopez, Chairman and CEO of First Philippine Holdings Corporation (First Holdings).
FPSC is an 80-20 joint venture (JV) project of First Philippine Electric Corporation (First Philec) with SunPower Manufacturing Ltd. (SPML). The JV will provide wafer-slicing services for the solar energy industry. First Philec is the holding company of the manufacturing businesses of First Holdings, while SPML is a subsidiary of SunPower Corporation (SunPower) of the United States. SunPower designs, manufactures and delivers the highest efficiency solar electric technology in the world today.
This JV is the first large-scale silicon wafer-slicing company in the Philippines. It is envisioned to have 100 multi-wire saws producing 240 million wafers annually to support approximately 720 megawatts of solar energy.
Danilo C. Lachica, President of First Philec Solar Corporation, said “FPSC is the pioneer in the country for large-scale wafer slicing. We are competing with companies providing wafer-slicing services in China, Japan and Germany, so we aim to be truly world class. Currently, our wafers are all exported, but we hope that the solar energy industry in the country will soon develop so that our wafers will be in photovoltaic panels installed in Philippine homes.”
